Year R
Children relate to the concept of Specialness through the celebration of Birthdays, the study of the Hindu festival of light, Diwali and the Christian Nativity. Understanding Specialness enables the children to develop a positive sense of self and through the exploration of difference between themselves and others, they learn how to develop respect and thoughtfulness. They become aware of how faith embraces New Life and change through the study of the Chinese New Year and the Christian celebration of Easter. They are able to see how celebration and tradition affects their families and their communities. Understanding how to make a positive contribution to society, is explored through storytelling about the role of Jesus in the Christian faith.
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.”
