Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The SENDco for our school is Mrs Jarvis, who can be contacted via the contact us page or the school office.

The Link Governor for SEND is Mrs Madeleine Peck, who can be contacted via the school office.

"Staff identify the early signs that pupils may need extra support. They build a picture of pupils’ needs by gathering evidence regularly and efficiently. This helps staff to identify both pupils who have fallen behind and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Close liaison with families and external agencies ensures that pupils with SEND quickly receive the right help in a timely way."

(Ofsted 2022)

The Children and Families Act 2014 brought with it changes to the way in which support is provided to children and young people in England with Special Educational Needs. A new SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disability) Code of Practice was implemented on the 1st September 2014 and this new system aims to put each young person and their family at the centre of discussions about the support offered.

At Cove Infant School we provide for the individual needs of all our children. Pupils with Special Educational Needs and / or Disabilities (SEND) are supported in a variety of ways: through differentiated lessons, adult support, intervention groups and outside agencies. We work closely with parents / carers to ensure that all aspects of your child's development are met.

The Local Offer

In response to the new Code of Practice, Local Authorities must publish a 'local offer' - the things that their schools/services will offer to SEN pupils and their parents. Please click here to see Hampshire's Local Offer.
