Growing and Achieving together

The Journey Home

The Journey Home

We were starting our English lesson about ‘Statements’ when an envelope addressed to Year 2 arrived.

We opened it to find pictures of a Polar Bear and speech bubbles!

We had a discussion about what these pictures could mean and why they were sent to us.
We decided that we were going to write statements about what we know and write questions that we wanted to ask the polar bear.

We then put these together in a letter to send to the Polar Bear!

Throughout their learning journey, the children learnt about endangered animals and the issues that they face on a day-to-day basis. They explored habitats and why different animals are suited to different habitats whilst locating these in the world.

The children really enjoyed using their imaginations and wrote a creative narrative based on the storm from  The Journey Home.

We learnt about the World's 7 Continents and 5 Oceans and located them on a map and a globe.  We even learnt a song to remember the Continents!  I'm sure if you asked your child about the song, they would sing it to you?!

They looked at their size and shape and learnt information about each Continent.  The children used their map skills and used atlases to locate and identify the Continents.
