A poster appeared in our classrooms! It asked for people to enter a story writing competition, to educate people about rubbish, recycling and looking after the planet.
We read the story ‘Somebody Swallowed Stanley’ and we learnt about the impact rubbish has on sea creatures.
We looked at the vocabulary and character descriptions from the story 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley' and found a resolution to a problem.
We explored the feelings of the creatures, as well as the children’s own feelings when they heard what can happen to animals.
Using this book as a starting point, we created a new story about a plastic bag going on a journey under the sea.
The children investigated how different materials can be re-used, reduced and recycled and the properties of these different materials.
This then led to children re-using a range of rubbish to create a sea scape collage for one of their sea creatures.
Parents were invited in to listen to their child read their story and the children educated them about taking care of the planet through a re-using activity.
